We have a Cummins emergency generator that's been in service for 12 years and twice over the past year has required on site repairs. My local electrician recommended contacting Meyers, and when I did they promptly responded in were at our home the next day. (We're over an hour from Rice Lake....) Austin is the technician that showed up to do the work, and in both cases he quickly discovered the issues and replaced failed parts to get us up and running again. On the second call, he suggested he could take the broken part to a local welder to repair, rather than pay over $1000 for a replacement component from Cummins. It took a few days to get that repair done, but I can only imagine what the bill would have been if I would called our Cummins service from Duluth! Meyers is a class act, and I very much appreciate Jake and Austin and the rest of the Meyers Electric crew.Posted on Shana FraserTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Reliable, honest and dependable! Great timely service technicians and electricians, and sweet office staff that always helps to find a solution to the problem.Posted on Michael UmhoeferTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wow, I had three small electrical projects I wanted quotes for. They grouped them together in one quote the first time, then three weeks later they sent a refined quote separating parts and labor. All I wanted was quotes for the three projects but the office manager refused to pass on the message and instead wanted me to again speak with someone from the field, which I have already done. She repeatedly said it was too complicated... one project was to replace two dimmer switches, the other project is to replace two bathroom exhaust fans, the third is to run electricity down a hill to have an outlet 30 yards from the home. Yeah, I guess they are too complicated.
- FAQ’s
Frequently Asked Questions
What causes frequent circuit breaker trips?
Frequent trips stem from circuit overloads exceeding amp ratings, short circuits between phases, or ground faults from insulation wear. Use a clamp meter to measure actual current draw against breaker specs. Visually inspect for arc marks or melted insulation, then reset only after load shedding. Install monitoring relays for ongoing protection in high-demand industrial setups.
What leads to PLC communication failures?
PLCs lose communication from electromagnetic interference on unshielded cables, loose I/O module terminations, unstable 24VDC power, or outdated firmware. Swap to twisted-pair shielded wiring, measure power ripple with an oscilloscope, reseat modules, and cycle power while pinging network nodes to confirm data flow restoration.
How to fix intermittent machine shutdowns?
Intermittent shutdowns trace to dirty limit switches, pitted relay contacts, EMI from nearby VFDs, or marginal voltage sags. Clean sensors with compressed air, test relay coil resistance and contact continuity under load, add EMI filters, and log events with a data logger to predict and prevent future trips.
Why are the lights flickering in the facility?
Flickering lights indicate voltage fluctuations from loose panel connections, overloaded transformers, or utility-side issues like tree contacts. Test voltage stability at fixtures and panels with a true RMS meter during peak loads. Secure all lugs to torque specs, balance phases evenly, and notify the power company if drops exceed 5%.
What indicates a ground fault?
Ground faults show as nuisance GFCI/RCBO trips, elevated chassis currents, or equipment humming. Perform insulation resistance testing with a 500V megohmmeter on de-energized circuits (should exceed 1MΩ). Isolate feeders sequentially with temporary jumps to pinpoint leaking phase, then repair wet conduits or abraded cables promptly.
Why is there unusual noise from panels?
Buzzing or arcing noises come from loose bus bars, corroded stabs, harmonic vibrations, or overtorqued lugs sparking. Lock out/tag out, use a non-contact voltmeter for residual voltage, inspect with a mirror for hidden arcs, clean with approved solvents, and retorque per manufacturer charts before re-energizing.
